Maybe not lightning. Just a big, green flash in the sky. It was followed by several white flashes that I took to be lightning behind heavy cloud cover, therefore I assumed the green flash was lighting as well. Just yesterday my friend, who lives in a different state, also saw a large, green flash during a storm. Anyone else seen something like this, and any idea what it could be?

    Is this like greased lightning?

A green flash (in my experience) is usually caused by a transformer exploding (the can transformers on utility poles). This is a remarkable thing to see up close.

Was the flash low or high in the sky? It might have been a transformer explosion (not uncommon during storms), that was reflected off the bottoms of the clouds.

It was high up, in the middle of the sky. There are plenty of transformers in my neighborhood, though, so I wouldn't deny it as a possibility.

We had very loud pink lightning during a winter here. People all over were phoning the police freaking out thinking there were bombs going off.
