Green Lightning - Brittany - 10-30-2012 Maybe not lightning. Just a big, green flash in the sky. It was followed by several white flashes that I took to be lightning behind heavy cloud cover, therefore I assumed the green flash was lighting as well. Just yesterday my friend, who lives in a different state, also saw a large, green flash during a storm. Anyone else seen something like this, and any idea what it could be? RE: Green Lightning - Unbound - 10-30-2012 Is this like greased lightning? RE: Green Lightning - Eddie - 10-30-2012 A green flash (in my experience) is usually caused by a transformer exploding (the can transformers on utility poles). This is a remarkable thing to see up close. Was the flash low or high in the sky? It might have been a transformer explosion (not uncommon during storms), that was reflected off the bottoms of the clouds. RE: Green Lightning - Conifer16 - 10-30-2012 my friends saw the entire sky light up green several months ago during a rainstorm. RE: Green Lightning - Brittany - 10-30-2012 It was high up, in the middle of the sky. There are plenty of transformers in my neighborhood, though, so I wouldn't deny it as a possibility. RE: Green Lightning - Conifer16 - 10-30-2012 they immediately came inside to tell me because they right away thought UFO and thought i would be interested :-P i was pretty bummed out to have missed it. lol RE: Green Lightning - BrownEye - 10-30-2012 We had very loud pink lightning during a winter here. People all over were phoning the police freaking out thinking there were bombs going off. |
