I imagine though that I was a kid a bit more recently than you. I was fortunate in that regard though.
Here in South Africa there's only one company that handles all land-line communications, they used offer dial-up over the phone line between 7pm and 7am for a low fixed rate- those were the days
. As you can imagine I was almost always on.
