Edit: anagogy, I didn't see your post before posting my own. Maybe Plenum can answer this question? Please.
Hi Verum.
I think there have been some great answers so far, and I can only add my own supporting thoughts.
First of all, the Card depicted above is Card 6; the Transformation of the Mind.
In terms of 'what' is transformed, and how, I would say that it is the formation of certain kinds of mental structures, which I would say are 'crystallized understandings'.
For a negative entity, these would be like walls or barriers, which heavily re-inforce the notion of the individuated self.
For a positive entity, these structures would be like pools of water, that others can partake of.
So in terms of 'protection', the negatively-oriented individual (or even negatively-polarized transformations, which we have all indulged in), there is a kind of numbness or unfeelingness when it comes to certain aspects/vibrations of the other-self. We don't want to 'resonate' or be triggered internally by something that is making itself available. Of course, if we have balanced that aspect, there is nothing to be triggered in the first place, and there is nothing to protect at all.
Negativity is just a clinging to one end of the dipole of balance (whichever end that is), rather than recognising and witnessing the spectrum of valid experience.
Positivity is not about all good-things, all the-time, but rather allowing the natural unfolding and witnessing of all possible diversity. It's truly non-judgemental in that way. Negativity is always preferential in it's outlook.
