I observed that men are more likely to shutdown when they are flooded with their emotions, compared to women, who seem to be more likely to express their feelings when they are flooded emotionally through crying and whatnot. It's hard to tell with men are experiencing something emotionally. Men do often say, "I think...." when they are expressing their emotional experience, and women say, "I feel..." when they are expressing what they are thinking.
