Whether it is consciously being disregarded or not is unknown to me, but this guideline is most definitely being overlooked from time to time. It ruins the atmosphere, if you understand my meaning of the word, on this board. This site, this forum, is purposefully designed to be a more harmonious place to communicate with others. We are all still human, and I understand this as well. However, it is quite obvious to me that sometimes members on this site purposefully provoke others, without heeding the forum guidelines.

I do believe everyone is intelligent enough to understand that if you feel your pride is hurt, or your intelligence insulted, that you can still participate on this forum without provoking or attacking other members...

Ultimately, there is no polarity. And you're right that STS has its place. However, we are in the density of Choice, in which we choose STS or STO path. Thus, what might be appropriate for someone choosing the STS path might not be appropriate for someone choosing the STO path.

I personally agreed with Lorna. I personally could not play a violent videogame. Especially after seeing a movie called The 13th Floor (which, incidentally, had redeeming value as a creative work of art!) in which the main characters turned out to be digital characters in a video game. I just can't quite bring myself to shoot zombies after that! Who knows how many potential entities I'd be killing, or thoughtforms I'd be creating!

Actually, I think passiveness and radiation go hand in hand.

Thus there are those of fifth-density whose abilities to express wisdom are great. There are fourth and sixth-density Wanderers whose ability to serve as, shall we say, passive radiators or broadcasters of love and love/light are immense. There are many others whose talents brought into this density are quite varied.

It's the negative path that is the active path of taking for the self.

So, I can see how those who are considered inactive, "slackers", by the eyes of society could be those passively radiating love and acceptance!

By the way, you made a great point about being able to use movies and even games as experiential catalyst. I think that's the positive side of the technology!

I was a massive consumer of video games and television for many many years. Most of them revolve around the worst kind of things possible. That is a fact. Sports do not involve killing, stealing, raping, materialism, greed, underage sex, glorification of drug use etc etc etc. Television and video games do. Are we going to defend that as an "art form" for young (very young) children to consume and become addicted to? I can assure you from ALOT of experience (all I wanted to do was play video games at one point in my life), that they DO effect both children and adults very strongly and subtley. This is certainly what the statistics and research suggest as well.

There is a story told in the music of metal itself, whether it is metallica, or whatever your kids get u into.

There are high points in the song, just like there are low points in the song.. if they were all high points there would be no character to the song, if there were all low points it would make a boring song. even so... killing zombies to let off steam.. is a lot better than punching other people in the face.
from playing counterstrike i found that getting pissed always makes me suck
so i had to learn how to not feel pissed or scared when someone came out of nowhere to shoot me
so it was making me keep my cool, under tense situations especially when things got bad

and it's always when you get pissed off, or stressed or acting like a wimp when something scary happened, it's only the creator reflecting itself back to you... as parts of yourself you have not accepted or integrated.

if you want to look at it negatively, it made me desensitized to killing or whatever... which isn't true at all i cry when i see sad things happen in movies. i feel bad when i see real things get hurt..
i laugh when i see someone trip.. but i cry when i see someone in pain.

but i don't look at it like a pessimist. the way i look at it is it helped me handle tense situations.. and learn to keep my cool and not to explode out in fear, or to explode out in anger.

it's always the people who suck that let themselves get angry or explode out. and all the gamers make fun of you for getting so pissed in the first place. which is what i was trying to show with the picture i posted to unity which is about "rage quitting"
which has everything to do with gamer culture.

perhaps it is purely our difference in generation, or perhaps it is the age of my soul.

i know so many gamers who aren't violent, and are well rounded. similarly you only attract what you see and what you expect out of life.

unfortunately because of the media and the way this society is we only hear about the bad things people do, but u don't go and hear news stories about people who donate their ingame money to their guilds, or people who meet up together to help each other finish quests and get dungeon specific loot.
no you only hear about the a*******, the rejects, the bad people, and the bad side of it.

why am i so passionate about this anyway. because i have met so many damned good people playing video games.. and for any of you to say video games breed bad people... is to say that all these great people I have met over the years are bad.

No it is you who is bad for judging a group of people as if they cannot take responsibility for their own actions when they do. It is the hearts and minds of gamers and of the anime subculture, that see the fighting, and fight for their hearts, for a better tomorrow, and they feel this burning love for humanity and for life, through the stories that are conveyed in each hero of each video game, anime, tv show, movie.

It's that shining LOVE that they feel, that emanates outward... and it's that very energy that you do NOT see, because love is invisible and yet it stabilizes the energetic fields around this planet. this whole completely unseen world, but instead it's oh it's all about killing and violence.

I used to be a semi-professional gamer, and I can say from experience that the many, many people I encountered over the years played in a mental state that stems from fear (protection/aggression/jealousy), rather than love/peace. The same applies to friends while growing up (from childhood through to university).

There's your problem! Professional gamers often don't know how to have fun. They're neurotically focused on winning at all costs.

I was semi-pro also. Was at the top of the games I played and made money doing it, had corporate sponsors, everything.

I believe the state of mind that most people utilize to become #1 in these games is very much adrenaline-based. I think that some pros do it in love and others do it in fear. I've seen both. I've seen pro gamers who clearly come from a place of love and love everyone and the game and everything, and others who are totally fear based, motivated by fear, and hostile towards others. I would agree that among the pros there is more fear than love, in my opinion. But it also varies between games. I like the vibes of the Korean pro-gamer community, some really nice people.

Casual gamers on the other hand are a totally different breed from the elites.

Games in themselves are neutral for polarizing in my opinion. I think they can easily be time wasters though -- actually just as I wrote this I recalled the part of the LOO where Ra says that the effect of most entertainment media is just to waste time, and does not cause significant polarization in either direction.

I think some aspects of the media complex are definitely there to control the masses and many have essentially negative effects (ranging the gamut really) but there are others that have clear positive effects (there are some tv shows and movies that vibrate with so much love and joy!).

Anyway I still play games in a casual way but I strictly avoid getting pulled into negative vibes while I play. My main focus is just social actually, to have a good time playing LittleBigPlanet with friends.

It's the message that counts, never the medium. Also you can't underestimate the power of what you bring to something!

I really really really don't believe in rigid rules that can apply to everyone. Everyone needs to figure out what best helps them get what they want. You just can't for sure tell someone else what is going to be uplifting to them.

(Although I absolutely believe that you can statistically measure the effect of a particular artwork on the population as a whole. But these facts are only relevant to those with their hands on the pull-strings of society, not individuals like us.)

Everyone responds to excess in their lives differently. At what point does a past time become an obsession? Only you can judge that for yourself. No matter what your friends say, your family...if you are deep in addiction, the only person that can make the decision to change it you. Derek apparently recognized that he had a problem.

But we are not all like Derek. And our interpretations of "games" can be different. I discovered online games a couple of years ago. Being older than most here, it was a late discovery. I have made friends from all over the world. Canada, Australia, Belgium, Iceland, Norway, UK and Russia to name just a few. We email each other, talk on Skype...about the game ...and just life in general. Lot of these people are almost like family. We help each other in game and out of game and get to know each other without the cultural facades getting in the way.

All wrapped around the skein of a pixellated game.

Experience or catalyst can go either way. Its what you make of the situations you find yourself in. If you accept that everything is just as its supposed to be...then perhaps you neeed to search for the lessons you've set yourself up for.

Thats why none of us can judge each other by our own experiences.

I'm finding this thread of interest too, I live with someone who has worked in the games profession for 20+ years. He's an artist and it's not a good time to be 'creative' in games.
Games are massive money now like films so people wanted guaranteed sellers.

I also play games. I like group pve content and working together as a team - I play with people who make games, and it's interesting to play with them. They analyse and enjoy the content, the art, the engine and such. On the whole these people genuinely are so passionate about what they do, they want to move people, engage, people amuse and entertain them.

I'd defo agree with games being in the lower chakras - but there’s nothing wrong with that imo, all in moderation, there great time wasters.

I also agree with people who say it's the player and it provides catalyst.
I really like people and find them endlessly fascinating, so when someone kills me in an mmo I wonder why - especially people who kill me again and again or when someone kills you when your afk, I try to wonder why they do that.
For the most I feel wonder and love at them, I admit the occasional thought of getting my main and squishing them but it's something I'd not follow through.
Even pvp style is what you make it, I spent an hr the other day duelling with friends while chatting on skype. No anger just trying to out play each other and having a laugh

lol counterstrike source is a fps.. usually all the maps are user created content. there are usually about 50 people playing. the point is to run from point A to B.

At some point in the beginning one guy turns into a zombie, and only has a knife while everyone else gets a gun. The zombie however has about 10,000 hit points so he is very hard to kill, but if a zombie cuts u just once, u turn into a zombie.

So none of the zombies walk very slow they all actually run really fast and the only thing that can slow them down is shooting them. It's really fun because everyone laughs and makes jokes and acts stupid. You hear a lot of sound bytes being played at the most opportune times, like Get to the chopper, or something similar.

since all the maps are user created there is a stargate sg-1 map, a pirates of the carribean, indiana jones, star wars, and a plethora of other zombie escape maps. plus i like it cause everyone acts like a retard and laughs at each other.

since all the maps are user created there is a stargate sg-1 map, a pirates of the carribean, indiana jones, star wars, and a plethora of other zombie escape maps. plus i like it cause everyone acts like a retard and laughs at each other.

Everquest2 Extended, Blatz. I have an account on DDO also, but haven't played it in months. Just don't have time for more than one MMO and the Everquest world is just huge.
