in the following diagram, the first major partition in the 3d mind is the 'Veil' which cuts the conscious mind from the Unconscious Mind (in normal awareness). The 'unconscious' as understood by me includes all the 'roots of mind' that Ra speaks of; the personal unconscious, the racial memories, the planetary memories, etc etc.
but within the Conscious Mind, I see a further partition: that of the 'Subconscious Mind' which contains all those things which are suppressed, avoided, or just too painful to deal with. These would include unprocessed traumas (unaccepted and unintegrated), and all the things we 'deny' about ourselves. It is there, having been brought through the Veil at some point, but it is not as yet included into the conscious state.

I am wondering if this 'subconscious state of mind' would correspond to what most people refer to as the 'Shadow'. The subconscious here is the place from which all Projections take place; where we ascribe and accuse others of certain faults ... but they are really aspects of the self which have been suppressed and kept under wraps.
because this suppressed material is on 'this side of the Veil' it is accessible and able to be utilised; but we only get glimpses of it when others act as mirrors to provoke these memories/qualities/attributes into being.
it seems as though the more of this 'Shadow' one can clear, the closer the conscious can came to the veil, and the more likely one can get glimpses through it.
this is just my current working model of the mind. Terms will be used by others in different ways, so I am interested in how you view this.
of course, the Veil is semi-permeable, and material 'leaks' into the conscious mind through dreams, deep meditation, drugs, and random holes perhaps.
"The activity of dreaming is an activity in which there is made a finely wrought and excellently fashioned bridge from conscious to unconscious."
