Ra mentions that the way wanderers can become karmically involved is if they act in a "consciously unloving manner." It's one thing to participate in a system that may be unloving because that is how you were raised, it's another to know that what you are doing is wrong and doing it anyway. Intent matters.

I think this is the key.
