Blatz is right, 3ds Max can take you very far, I've seen people do amazing things with it, but the guys who take it to the next level move on to Maya.

I'm not looking to get hired. I just want to be able to model a character that I like. And perhaps animate him. Once I have the principles down I can do much more. Doesn't Maya put a watermark on renderings?

I'm not a student so I couldn't do the educational version. But they do have Maya LT version that is cheaper than regular Maya.

I haven't had as much time to spend on Blender lately because I have to take care of my mom, and fix meals and such.
I did spend a couple hours though trying to sculpt a face without luck. At this rate I won't get burned out.

I studied collisions of rigid bodies. Here's a ball falling onto another one.

Yeah, I'm looking into that. Right now I'm studying particles and rigid bodies. Going through a few tutorials on that. Then I'll do character modeling. There is only one character I really want to model. And I'm giving myself a year to do so, studying almost every day. But not getting burned out. Thanks for the great advice.

I think I like 3DS Max more because I'm a classic box-style modelor, I like to get right down to the vertexes and build the geometry. Maya is good if you're doing more high-resolution stuff or thicker detail with lots of smoothing but I find 3DS a lot more comfortable for game models and building meshes.

I haven't made a model in years but this was one of the last ones I was working on.

Well I couldn't justify or back up a need for a 3DSMax or Maya license. And Maya costs like $1700 per year. 3DSMax also costs the same at their website.

Yeah if it's just for fun, just go with casual!

Way cool demo reel. I'm researching hair and fur right now. I will probably have to use vertex groups to assign different fur color and clumpiness to parts of the body.

My first try at modeling a human. The tutorial didn't cover the face though.

This was a challenge because Blender wasn't playing along for the most part.
