The siren's lament

Howling far away

Sings the story

The futile search

The reaching in vain

The trodden under foot

Wailing in the background of our lives

.. ..

April sun is setting golden

Through the cemetary trees

And all the scents of the fairer season

Color the hilltop breeze

There's something in this graveyard hour

That stirs my soul within

To a place I know I've been before

That I know I'll leave again

And as that gold light sinks away

Unveiling a sea of stars

I've no doubt it still shines somewhere else

On some cemetary afar

And flowers are growing around gravestones

And the birds are singing in the sky

In the springtime garden of the dead

Where none go for pleasure but I

.. ..

Only one man has ever walked this earth

Only one ship ever sailed in the sea

Only one woman has ever given birth

Only one person ever called their self "me"

.. ..

It's funny how sometimes

when looking at someone

who's saying something to me

though I try and I try

to look into their eyes

eyeballs are all I can see

And though their words touch my ears

Not one word can I hear

Their consonants and vowels all in vain

and all these things that they're after

just don't really seem to matter

funny gadgets, idle facts, financial gain

and it's strange, at times, the grass around me

is as green as grass could strive to be

but I pass by, take no notice of the hue

And the sun it shines so brightly

And the stars they twinkle nightly

And the flowers glow red, yellow, violet, blue

But as these miracles unfold before me

I look but somehow do not see

I seem at times to be lost in the world

So time it passes by the hour

My moods they shift from sweet to sour

All around me thoughts and feelings spin and swirl

Until I see I'm sinking down

My forehead wrinkled, my lips a frown

And I know that there is something I've misplaced

And just like that, it all comes back

My thoughts and concerns crumble and crack

I, me, and mine are shattered, laid to waste

And in the simple truth of a yellow flower

All fear and anger shrieks and cowers

There are not two, no thing to praise, no thing to shun

And as the sun begins to rise

Shining love behind my eyes

Shining through me

I am empty

Only one

.. ..

As the day disappears

Of it's own accord

The flat world is veiled from my eyes

I rest in the darkness

And my blindness reveals to me

The one infinite sea

It's boundless depths

Strewn with shining stars

Like a field of wildflowers

A never-ending expanding-ever

Dancing symphonically

Painting on nothingness itself

Through which the images slip and pass

Even as they forever remain

And as I close my eyes to sleep

The stars in my heart

Shine also in that sea

The very same

.. ..

There is a moment

Between buildings

When the snowflakes

No longer fall

They stop, where they are

Look me in the eye

And then they rise

So playfully flying

Like a flock of stars

Like weightless children

And I am lost

Beautifully abandoned

Boundless in their dance

Out into somewhere

From Nowhere we come

Though seeing, we are blind

Though speaking, we are dumb

Though hearing, we are deaf

Though touching, we are numb

As diamonds in the desert

As gold in the scum

But on clear nights we stare

At the stars in the skies

And we wander as lost

Deep in eachothers eyes

For what we see there

Any words would be lies

Silence is the answer

Given by the wise

So pine we all day

And pine we all night

With music and art

With all of our might

Beauty and joy are our cries

Homesickness our plight

Until nowhere calls us back

Into love, out of site

How does this happen?

One day I am wide open

But shut tight the next

I would give anything

To never shut again

It strikes me a shame

A sight fit for grieving

A poor seamstress ignored

And left to her weaving

With indifference they create

For their would-be cavaliers

A dress semi-fine

With holes in the years

For their hearts are not in it

dull cloth for docile men

So they wait all the day

For Sol to set again

And when comes the night

Their stations left behind

The burst into the darkness

To see who they may find

And in an open space

Where the earth meets the skies

They join hands with men half mad

Who look straight into their eyes

Passing freely without care

They give each one his chance

Some more, some less, surely

But all join in the dance

As the thudding earth beats time

To the melody of the stars

Like all things created

They spin and swirl for hours

"It is death alone," they sing,

"for the harvest who waits.

It is joy while he bides

To dance with the fates!"

I am ice storm

The chill on your neck

I am grey silence

The tingling down your back

They prepare for my coming

By fattening their hides

Many hide away

Till I have passed them by

I am the interruption

The trial of the weak

I am shepherd of birds

And ruler of peaks

All life recedes

As I come to make my stay

And as I coat the world

All man must halt their day

And risk of death awaits those

Foolish enough to stray

While mining for gold

In the caverns of my soul

I find something else

Jewels of imagination

Sparkling in the dark

I am not this thought

I am the snow

Falling gently onto the branches

Of the sleeping tree

I am not

There are flowers hidden everywhere

I swear that it is true

If you've an empty eye to see them

They're right in front of you

You may see them in a puddle

In the trees, on the floor

You may even find them hiding

In a stinky worn-out shoe

I've caught them growing wild

On my couch in the den

You may look about and wonder

How all these flowers grew

You may not believe me

But they're in the trash

And the mud, and the toilet too!

I've discovered the simple secret

To their ingenious camoflauge

You overlook these countless beauties

Because they're not what you think of as you

But when you look about

Without a doubt of what you really are

You won't have to be told

You'll already know:

You yourself are a flower, too

Their secret is that

They are all the blossoms

Of one ever-blossoming tree

And you and all the rest

Are where what you are

Is blooming through

Freedom, sweet freedom

Comes not from any change

I can make

It comes by the allowing

Of a seeing

It comes from a surrender

To a Knowing

Through the clearing of the way

For a Loving

A flower set ablaze

The blossoming of a star

The words of all these talkers

Mean nothing to me now

Hypotheses, conclusions

Boulders in the road

Debates, confusion

Stones in the load

Every single opinion

Cages a bird

"I am the king

Who lives behind your face.

I am your god

I keep the pieces in place."

There is a field that is

When I am not

So hush now little baby

And don't say a word

There are more things to be

Than anything you've ever heard

There is a core bright as sunlight

When the ghost goes away

Silk on my fingers

Carpet in my toes

Seven ballerinas

Dancing on my nose

There is a hole in the head

When the story is forgot

The crown collects dust

On the king's empty throne

A throne is just a seat

When the king has come home
