It is bizarre "they" talk of only 1,200 years ?!
I would believe it is more like 12,000 years, wich is when the sea's water rised, as all the ice-age's ice all melted. . . Blue skies.
Well, to me the fact that it sank 'over 1,200 years ago' is significant to me because the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete north of Egypt collapsed around that time (the date given for this is usually around 1,400 BCE) after a natural disaster destroyed all their cities along the coast. The natural disaster in question is thought to have been a tidal wave caused by the eruption of the volcano on the island of Thera (an eruption so powerful it literally blasted the island apart) which also occurred sometime mid 2nd millenium BCE.
It would make sense to me that this city was flooded by the same disaster that flooded the minoan civilization. Edit: I just noticed those dates don't match, oopsie

Often confused for the civilization of Atlantis. Consider what destroyed the Minoan civilization one wonders if Plato somehow got the two mixed up. Is there anymore details available?

I fully believe that Atlantis did exist. Though keep in mind Plato was just restating what the egyptians told his ancestor. Of particular note to the topic of this thread (being sunken cities/islands) read the "geology" part of the link. You may find it interesting or compelling. Namaste, Conifer18 :-) |
