I think it's quite unique to everyone, sort of flowing with your body. What I do notice that happens to my breath in meditation is that after a while I barely breathe, like I don't use as much energy so no need a lot of air. But again, I think it's biased to each individual. Start with long breathes to get your attention to the body and not the thoughts, see where it gets you.

I don't usually pay attention to my breath, but more the energy that I feel. But each person is different.
If you feel focusing on breath helps you, then definitely do that.

Quote:Many entities use techniques of breathing, or mantras, or images within the inner mind, to focus upon in order to reach a one-pointed focus, that is a focus upon this unity of self with the Creator, of self with all that there is, however you wish to describe it. The slow and rhythmic breathing, deep inhalations and deep exhalations, are very effective means of allowing discord and disharmony to disappear, shall we say. For the concentration upon the breath as you inhale and exhale relaxes the mind most completely at the end of the exhalation, so that it is possible, at this point in the breathing, to stop the breath briefly, for a count of six or seven or eight, and at this point, become aware of the unified feeling of self with all that is. Then, as you breathe again, retaining the focus upon that point, and once again stopping the breath when the exhalation is complete. https://www.llresearch.org/transcripts/i..._1216.aspx Quote:Gary: Q’uo, I find that when I meditate my attention is pulled by thoughts, of course, but also by the movement of energy in my body. My attention moves with my breath, or moves with the shifting sensation of body. I was wondering if there is a more effective way or technique to stabilize the attention so that it looks at movement, but does not, itself, move. https://www.llresearch.org/transcripts/i..._0214.aspx Quote:The simple act of following one’s breath is a very helpful technique to use for clearing the mind during meditation. Deep breaths are most salutary for the system. Just as the plant inhales light which it metabolizes into food, so does your energy body benefit from the deeper breathing in and out. The deeper in-breaths do indeed carry light. And when the intention is set to breathe in prana or light/love, that greatly enhances the seeker’s ability to receive the food of light from the air. I seem to remember reading something else once where it was said that focusing on the breath is a good technique but is not the aim of meditation itself, after a certain point the body should be allowed to take over breathing and you can discontinue your focus on it and enter the deeper stages of meditation.

Comfortably.
Edit: In through through nose, hold, out through mouth, each in 3 second intervals, in other words. Breath in through nose for 3 seconds. Hold for 3 seconds. Exhale for 3 seconds. Hold for 3 seconds. Repeat Have the tip of your tongue at the top of your mouth, youll find a good spot for it, preferably seated but you can lie down, hands comfortably at your thighs with palms facing upward. Thats how Ive learned to do it.

Breath is something that I pay attention to in meditation; breath and posture. I take it to be a practice of disciplining the personality. It’s a kind of metaphysical training.
The way I breath is rhythmically to be set at a rhythm of 6-3-6-3 or 4-2-4-2. You can use your heartbeat to measure the count. I personally find this hard to do, but it’s very reliable if you can hear and feel your heartbeat and keep it at a steady pace. Breathe in for 6 counts, hold for 3, breathe out for 6 counts, hold for 3, repeat. One can actually establish a rhythmic breathing pattern and then stop counting, allowing the mind to be free during meditation while also keeping to the rhythmic breathing pattern. If 6-3-6-3 is too much or too difficult, 4-2-4-2 works as well. If you don’t like that method, simply breath fully in, hold, then breath fully out and hold, repeat. We humans do not usually use much of our lungs. Our breathing is very shallow most of the time. Full, deep breathing energizes us. You can even imagine that air to be filled with golden white light so that it cleanses the energy field. Another method of using the breath in meditation is to follow the breath. Keep your entire kind focused on breathing in and out. You will begin to fall deeper into the meditative state. Why does one rhythmically breath in meditation anyway? There are various reasons. It’s said that to mimic the breathing patterns of the higher states of consciousness puts us in closer proximity to those higher states.

I'm not sure if this count but always have an intention before meditation. Why are you going to meditate for? Are you bringing light? do you want to understand something? You want to know who you are? You want to remove thoughts and stress? then apply some of these wonderful breathing methods. If none of these work for you then change strategic and hold one thought for as long as you can(as you concentrate in one thought this one will keep other thoughts away) take your time learning this because after you learn to create a peaceful pattern within you it will be easier for you to reach your core of being.

Slowly, deeply. these two are more important I guess. then a steady rhythm.
After some time in many situations you will be reminded of your breath and u will know breathing is even more important in everything than we think. |
