Thanks for the posts Patrick and Parsons! Yes I do believe a switch to resource based economy (or maybe gift based if the population is reduced drastically for whatever reason) would be a great move for our society. . . it's something I think about a lot but most people tell me I'm being to idealistic when I discuss it with them.

[. . .] Things will get hard enough that people will start turning on the authorities and demanding things be better. The "machine" will break down and things will HAVE to change in some direction.[. . .]

I do believe things are already starting to move in that direction if you look at things like the Arab Spring, the Occupy movement, student strikes in Quebec and Mexico . . . and so on.

I guess I am just getting impatient . . . Thanks for the perspective check, I feel a little better now.
