DreamingPeace has some excellent recommendations for you. I just wanted to point out that ultimately all the answers are within you and will come from you (recall that there is, in reality, only one of us here). Trust yourself and live in the moment. Please let me comment briefly on some of your own observations (I may have moved them around a little to help you see what you already know):

It is difficult for me to absorb much info for a few reasons...Firstly, my physical condition is quite faded and long-term (had a heat stroke and a heart attack, so my brain is not quite up to par).

It sounds to me as though your physical condition was a catalyst which led to your seeking, which led you here. Rejoice in this blessing!

I have tried exhaustively over the years to contact my spirit guide with no success... I am now being dilligently bombarded with past lives issues.

Seems to me that the two are directly related. Remember that whenever you ask, you do receive. What may be missing is your ability to see. Keep your eyes open and deal with whatever is in front of you NOW.

The opposite of looking "within" is looking "without". All you need to know is already within you. There is no need for external confirmation of what you already know. Trust yourself.

I am still unable to even invoke my root chakra as I feel I am heavily blocked and distracted.

Why do you feel that way? You know more than you're saying here. Look at it. Embrace it. Work through it. Stop avoiding it.

In retrospect I should have known that I was a wanderer as the profile fits me to a T, and explains my extended isolations and instincts that I am here 'to fulfill a greater purpose'. I have also had little use for material possession.... On a side note, I am pretty much penniless so buying books, CDs, courses, and office visits are not an option

The universe is filled with all the abundance you need. You don't have to be a pauper to be spiritual, just don't become a slave to your possessions. Approach the world from a position of abundance, not need, and the universe will respond to your desires.

On another side note, I have realized that my most recent past life must have been really bad, looking back on all that bad karma I get inundated with.

Another word for Karma is "attachment", in order to lose the attachment to past actions, you must forgive yourself and others. Forgiveness is accomplished in the NOW. Remember that the past is history, the future is a mystery, and "NOW" is a gift. That's why they call it the "PRESENT". You can either use it, or lose it, it's your choice.

your story is all too familiar.
my eyes are not what they used to be hence the mega large font.

i found the material 10 years ago and the Ra Material still baffles my meager brain, but i have always had good intuition and it is well worth it to let the worries go and let creation send it's rewards. i have had 2 heart attacks, the last one was to be a quintuple bypass. being on public aide & PENNILESS as well, i received a double bypass. after the second attack my entire physiology changed. i also have 4 cervical disks that require surgery. more disk troubles smack dab between the shoulder blades & a 30 year love affair with the entire lumbar region, that requires more surgery., courtesy of a cheap shot in football. a full on top speed helmet to my back by a 6'8" state heavy weight wrestling wrestling champ/chump. i also have osteoarthritis (an inheritance) in my spine, right hip, right shoulder, both hands, knees, ankles, heck everywhere it seems and this weather can be a brutal guest. i have not been able to have the surgeries because nobody here in northern IL neuro surgeon wise will accept the illinois public aide card (they are very slow payers) and i really don't think i want that whole ordeal. i was even told by my pain doc that he no longer would see me as a patient because he had done all that he could for me but he would happily give me all the epidural injections i wanted. i stopped getting them 2 years ago! after many years of extra strength vicodin, methadone, tramadol, celebrex, etc. i was getting to where i had bad insomnia and the toll it took on my rectum ( rectum, it darn near killed him.........) i now choose good ole POT for my pain med of choice.
we have 6 little indians running amuck here in north hooterville, my youngest son Aaron 12 has autism, my second oldest daughter Anjela has a heart condition that required open heart surgery.
we lost our first house to foreclosure, had to file for bankruptcy, blah blah blah.we have lived without electric, gas, water and phone service time and time again.
it is hard not to get a Job complex but when things are at their worst but our angels, family and friends always have been there when it was needed.
after 5 years of trying to get social security i was recently approved for social security disability benefits. i ended up getting a lawyer to get this done, i highly recommend getting help if this is something you think you might need to pursue. i am now a full on card carrying member of the medicare set, not bad for a 47 year old dude.

i go on blind faith and unconditional trust in the grace that balances all things. if you empty yourself and allow the the first original thought to seep into your soul, the sun seems to shine brighter the birds sing more clearly and sometimes your hair will turn purple , anyway when you go with the flow maybe a knowing confident smile is born of your resolve to be a partner to your pain and misery, they are gifts that will slow you down and enable you to see yourself in this world now, in this incarnation now, NOW is the perfect time to become a simpler version of yourself. have faith my friend have patience and above have alot of fun, laugh at it until it seems absurd.
