"We" shall do whatever we feel is right, and in my eyes, that is protecting the child from the murderer to protect its sovereignty, not to attempt to infringe on the murderer.

And they can say the same about you...and they are just as right as you are in their mind. Maybe wrong to you, but a murderer doesn't care what you think is wrong.
