I would add that, in the metaphorical sense, every major leap forward in my spiritual growth has involved a mental "ninety degree turn" in that it came with the sudden realization that something I thought I knew was almost entirely wrong. Which is why I tend to laugh at all these self-styled guru types out there these days who think they have arrived at some sort of "grand truth" about something... clearly they haven't had as many "awakening" moments as they think they have... some rude (and real) awakenings in store for these types when they finally realize that they guru-ed themselves (and their mindless followers) straight into a brick wall. But if they hit it hard enough, maybe that will induce the ninety-degree turn that they require in order to truly move forward in their own spiritual growth.
