I would suggest that limitation is the result of an attempt to control. Therefore whomever believes that they are in control of something is actually allowing themselves to be controlled by it and under some form of delusion. Belief does not dispel delusion; only truth can dispel delusion.
I can pick and choose whatever belief I like, but I have seen that this sort of gross "control" can interfere with the natural evolution of belief where each belief pattern serves as a framework or scaffolding for the next, and discarded when it no longer serves a purpose. So in trying to "skip ahead" to a particular belief pattern that I perceive to be the "best and highest" I have had to go back and recapitulate the steps in between that I previously missed. Not necessarily a "bad" thing but somewhat of a circuitous route I think...
