I have used/created thought-forms attached to physical gadgets, but that was for specific reasons. For instance, the ritual Carla/Jim/Don did before summoning Ra, was this kind of ritual/creating thought form, although not attached to the physical thing/s, but a thought form/wall of light, to keep the negative entities out of that contact. And I think that in the specific situation/s it is wise to do so, but otherwise I am with Richard here, that we are here to work on/with ourselves/catalysts; and negative entities are rumored to be best in this kind of service/s, huh?
