The mention of the pentagram reminds me of Don's use of The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, related to the Golden Dawn. Furthermore, there may have been mention of using salt to clear energies - as when preparations were being made to move houses.
I can't remember the mythology of Lucifer being mentioned in the Ra books, though I don't remember a lot of things. My impression is this mythology may relate to the influences of temptation as offering an oppositional element which can help a person strengthen their resolve in some way, or not, depending upon their choice. Elements of opposition may come in many forms, which can allow contrasts to be played into conflicts, split into distance, or remain unresolved, etc.
In some twisted sense, one may consider such element of temptation as a service to others. How can a person ascend without stairs to step upon and push off of?
It may difficult to say just what the intent of Lucifer was, if actions were taken completely out of self interest or if Lucifer realized that an element of temptation may be just the element needed to catalyze growth in some important way.
In other words, there seems some possibility that Lucifer may have been playing a role as the "bad guy" knowing full well that there was a risk of being known, there-ever-after as "the bad guy", as a price paid for the opportunity of serving another the catalyst they needed for their evolutionary development. Could Lucifer have sacrificed the pristine reputation in some act as a service to another?
In a more general sense, there may be common occurrences where people break the rules in order to serve some greater good. The appearance as rule breaker may veil the greater underpinnings at work, in the greater scheme of things.
As one ponders the limitation of perception and language and how their inherent limitations may impose misunderstanding, then it seems easier to take on a non-judgmental stance as a higher degree more congruent with how it may really be, the good and the bad interconnected to extents inextricable.
There may be some symbolic link between Lucifer and Ra by way of the planet Venus. As residing in some high density, I would consider Ra able to participate in such roles: as those of bad guys who turn out to be good guys in the bigger picture, or else of STS appearances which turn out to be STO in some more important way.
