Most people know when they are being stared at, not sure about pets though. I always found people's eyes very interesting and have a tendency to look into them, that caused a lot of problems. I have trying to avoid looking at certain people's eyes but that would make people think I am disrespectful ... I think one can try to stare at the eyes of someone you really don't like (in a photo) to learn to accept other selves maybe
