Why is everyone saying dec 21 2012 and not oct 22 2011? Terence McKenna's timewave zero and the mayan calendar both arrive properly at that date.

That's an easy one: the vast majority of Mayan scholars, the 'Mayanists', would disagree on what you and they consider 'proper'.

And of course, not only is the date itself in question, but the meaning of the date to the Mayans, and the meaning in light of channeled material.

I thought it was a common misconception, oh well.
