Edinburgh - I look at it as negative action versus positive action, because you rightly take care of and be true to yourself in many positive ways, so this wouldn't negatively slide you back on the self serving scale. Once your perspective changes as you say, you naturally always account for the other.

3DM - You're right, I suppose I exaggerated to make a point. There is always a process going on, so vibrationally a positive being would always be coming from a place of love and harmonizing their thoughts to make the right decision.
