Well they had to refine their new choice of polarity. They had gone through 4D positive before, not negative, so going back to 5D after switching polarity in 3D wasn't an option, because they had to refine their new choice the way all do, moving to 4D after 3D.

But I mean, after they switch to the polarity where they belonged, that is after they abandoned 4D-, why did they join Ra: s 4D+ instead of going home?
