There are many, many superfoods. It's true that some are from Japan, Okinawa, etc. but others are from the Amazon rainforest, Hawaii, etc. The most powerful superfood I use is from Klamath Lake Oregon. Bee pollen can be purchased locally. So there are many options.
Even the algaes, coral calcium, etc. from Japan have already been bottled before this catastrophe, so NOW is a good time to stock up on those.

Most people just have no idea just how much stuff (food, herbals, medicines, vitamins etc..) comes from China & other Pacific Rim countries. Its absolutely staggering.
The food in the US is just as contaminated. A single head of lettuce grown in the US might have as many as 96 chemical residues. Children by the age of 2 have already gotten their entire lifetime's allotment of pesticides. Not to mention the antibiotics and hormones injected into the cows and chickens. Every glass of milk, every bite of meat or cheese, has a concentration of those antibiotics, hormones, as well as pesticides eaten by the animal.
It's unavoidable. That's all the more reason to buy organic as much as possible, sprout, have a garden, and eat superfoods. Superfoods like algaes, bee pollen, etc. help chelate the heavy metals and detoxify the body. I consider superfoods crucially important. And organic, clean superfoods are available.

I wouldn't assume that domestic is necessarily better, and not all foreign sources are the same. The Japanese are a lot stricter about supplements than the Koreans or Chinese. In fact, many supplements readily available in the US and Canada, are not available in Japan because they don't meet their stringent standards.
I do agree about doing your homework!
