I guess it's safe to say Iraq was not the best for any of us. Maybe you needed to go there to wrap up some karmic patterns. A service to a past life so to say.
To confirm your hope. It's not too late. Even if you're a wanderer you can expect the things that don't make sense to make sense in a bigger picture we don't always see... I have a friend who was with the armed forces in former Yugoslavia. When he was there the seeds for his later Buddhism were sown. What does not kill us makes us stronger right?
