Thanks for your thoughtful and very interesting response on "concentration".
I have used a very similar process of constructing a "vision" in my imagination describing the effect I want. Like you, also without knowing if it's efficacious or not but feeling positive about it.
Some teachers tell us that these images created in our imagination (as distinct from "phony images") can be created in an interior space which they call the "Void" or "Plenum" of Infinite Potential, and the image acts as a precedent form for a real- world manifestation. The teachers of this method vary on whether to continually add "energy" to the visualization (by continuing it with ever more emotion) to bring it to realization, or if it's best to just "let it go" with an attitude of "it's done" or "let go and let God". Most say that access to this "space" is equivalent being in the Alpha or Gamma brain wave state.
Thanks very much for sharing! You have encouraged me in my own "image construction"!
Do you mind if I "pick your brains" a little more?
What is your experience or understanding about "mantra yoga" particularly ancient Sanscrit texts which are to be memorized and repeated ad infinitum? I became interested in the Gayatri mantra, which is the oldest, from some reading and learned the mantra. I chanted it entirely to myself. I stopped when I got negative feedback from my spiritual director, that it wasn't suitable for me. (No explanation. But I got the picture.) Mantra yoga certainly incorporates the "repetition" principle, but it can become mechanical quickly.
Thanks and blessings of Love and Light
