This idea reminds me of branes (membranes) in String (or M) Theory, where existence can be described as a loaf of bread with slices that exist as separate universes. This theory solves the force of gravity which has been problematic. It also has as its basis the idea of vibration being the building block of existence. String Theory is really fascinating. 
There is a book by Brian Greene, The Elegant Universe, which I recommend. But also Nova made his book into a wonderful series—very entertaining. I recommend watching all 3 parts of the series, but I will post a link to part 3, which addresses the branes. You can go to time mark 24:42 where it is addressed specifically:
