The Many Years
I will go away in the springtime
When my sadness can merge with the orange blossoms
There is no need to tell me that
You loved me
That every day I was in your thoughts
So many years so many
And yet now it seems too few
Your smile will always stab
My heart with its innocence
It is a smile I know and
Have always known
I saw it first in a dream
And it will live now in my memory
And what of me will you remember
A shadow seen drifting across the hills
Just as I passed through your life
Trying to leave no mark
Yet wanting to make a difference
In the springtime
I will leave my last kiss
In a small corner of the garden
And someday you will sit there laughing
Blanketed by its sweetness
As soft shadows dance with the sun
I will go away in the springtime
When my sadness can merge with the orange blossoms
There is no need to tell me that
You loved me
That every day I was in your thoughts
So many years so many
And yet now it seems too few
Your smile will always stab
My heart with its innocence
It is a smile I know and
Have always known
I saw it first in a dream
And it will live now in my memory
And what of me will you remember
A shadow seen drifting across the hills
Just as I passed through your life
Trying to leave no mark
Yet wanting to make a difference
In the springtime
I will leave my last kiss
In a small corner of the garden
And someday you will sit there laughing
Blanketed by its sweetness
As soft shadows dance with the sun
