They never existed outside of his Mind, until the books were printed and the movie made. They are all fictional characters created by the imagination of a great author. What has that got to do  with Reality and Consciousness?

As Ming the Merciful is also fictional character that exist on bring4th universe, thought up by << put your label here>> consciousness.
As Frodo is also fictional character that exist on LOTR universe, thought up by JRR Tolkien consciousness.

Ming the Merciful, Frodo, LOTR universe, bring4th universe is a thought form.

There is a "Veil" that we all experience because Consciousness cannot discover itself. Or, Consciousness cannot define Consciousness.

The 'veil', is the karmic structure which gives border on the infinite consciousness.
Thus "I" and "Not I" can be defined with the border as limit.

Can you tell me who you really are, apart from what you would describe from your senses. We all experience the "I am", but none of can explain the experience. That is the "Bug" in the firmware. Or, it was created that way on purpose?

I am jafar a bring4th avatar.
jafar was created on purpose by I, the higher self of jafar.
jafar the username and knowledge of the password, and the memory of it's experience on bring4th gives border/limitation to the I on bring4th universe.
jafar is definitely not the only avatar that I, the higher self of jafar experiencing.
I, the higher self of jafar has many others avatars on many others universes.

When I, the higher self of jafar, possess the knowledge/data/memory of Ming the Merciful's password and posting/experience data on bring4th universe, then Ming the Merciful will also become part of I, the higher self of jafar.

The unit of consciousness labeled as 'higher self of jafar' now has enlarged it's identity border, to include jafar and Ming the Merciful on bring4th universe. Thus a renaming is appropriate let's call it 'higher self of jafar and Ming the Merciful'.

What sets one apart from one identity/karmic structure/soul with another is merely access to memory/data.
That's the reason why Ra uses the term "Social Memory Complex".
According to Ra, the "Social Memory Complex" of Ra, consist of 9 millions something of avatars/identities or it can also be said as 9 millions of once separated unit of consciousness.

One can also observe how 'identity merging' happened and the impact afterwards on people with DID.

Both... depending on one perspective and definition.

Bring4th universe is as real to jafar as LOTR universe is as real to Frodo or other universe, when seen from the perspective the avatar within the universe. When seen by other perspective outside of the respective universe, then bring4th universe and LOTR universe is imagery / virtual / illusion / MAYA.
