This video connects the Chinese language, techniques, with a more spiritual and heart centered way of looking at things.
"Then you see those videos of apparent qi gong masters getting decked by people highly trained in other more physical disciplines, because ultimately the 'strength' of qi is one thing, but technique of delivery can change things greatly."
I have more than a passing familiarity with Chinese and Japanese myths and traditions. Thus a lot of the modern Chinese gurus tend to act out the stories of the immortals and cultivators. Cultivators are not martial artists. Cultivators are like Western adepts or magus/wizards.
They act in this role, since it is has to do with face/reputation, and eventually they convince themselves they actually can do the things in the legends. Then they do something unwise like accepting a challenge from MMA people.

One of the interesting connections between Mizner and Joe the guy who reconstructed his spine, is that Mizner had a similar accident and also reconnected his spine using chi/prana/phvrill.
This becomes valuable data for connecting dantiens to chakras, and martial arts Tai Chi Chuan with the heart-indigo chakras.
Well, that's just it, reality can sometimes smack one in the face.
You might enjoy the works of Bruce Frantzis if you're not familiar, he also repaired his spine after an injury through the Taoist Water Method and was one of the earliest 'legitimate' Western teachers.
