With regard to your story, John Keel once said, and I'm paraphrasing, cause I can't find the exact quote now, but he said something to the effect of "Mystery is the cause or the start of man's quest into the meaning of life and understanding it".

Your post made me think of that quote, because we are so often surrounded by people who seemingly don't share our strong fascination with the mysterious.
