(This is probably repeating what's been said....) I think ultimately the fear of the 'mark of the beast' is that humanity becomes completely owned/stuck in a prison planet situation, where the earthseeds have no choice but to incarnate into bodies that are completely controlled and mined for energy (Matrix movie scenario), and since the environment is completely controlled and exploited, there is no prospect for spiritual evolution or harvest, i.e. eternal damnation.

I don't believe that this is possible in the way it's presented, but I do believe there is a 'spiritual war' going on.
