Hmmm.... I can see why someone would say that...
However, and I have only seen the new movie, I never heard him dismiss negative interactions with "aliens"....
I believe it is mentioned (in the new movie and in the Ra Material as well,) that negative interactions with "aliens" are set up in a way to instill feelings of fear, as a means of control. Both the movie and the Ra material get into that. I don't remember him ever dismissing negative interactions with "aliens" in any way. In fact, the crux of his work, to me, relies on recognizing these negative contacts, and then saying "you can go about this differently." Because the status quo with alien contact has predominately been, invasion, world domination, war, all these negatively-oriented ideas.
I understand the hype with him personally.... the idea that alien contact can be so radically different from what we've been fed is, well... pretty exciting for lots of people!! Including me
