It starts to physically hurt in my chest and it gets worse and worse until it is unbearable and I simply stop. Usually I get angry afterwards and let the anger out. Is that a good thing? Should I keep going like this?
Unfourtnately I can't see a therapist right now-It's just not possible.
With the information given, I cannot advice.
However, I recommend keeping going.
Healing and overcoming blockages is not a matter of days.
If you experience physical pain:
- check your meditation pose. Is it comfortable? Can you have your spine straight without strain or much effort? Is there pressure on your chest from the pose? See if you need to adjust your pose.
- Do you experience difficulty in breathing? Like, you feel you are breathing instead of it happening automatically?
That might be a sign of control and a source of pain.
In that case, do not focus on your breathe. Focus on your whole body instead. You might want to try a mantra as a focal point.
With some more details on how you meditate, it could be easier to find the source.
However, the pain could also be pain that actually always is there and that you normally ignore/supress.
You could try meditating outside, preferably in nature, with your eyes open.
A type of meditation where you go deep inside is not always recommended. When you easily get lost in either pain, difficult emotions or thought loops, meditating outside with open eyes is probably better.
It will help to keep you connected to the Earth and not get lost that easily.
If all of that doesnt work, try a walking meditation.
Go for a walk, with a meditative approach. The helps reduce tension and helps act out stuck energy. I found this to be extremely helpful in difficult and overwhelming stages of my process.
Staying locked up inside is not helpful for depression.
And spending much time with computer/ internet/ games on one hand helps numbing you, but does add a lot to depression.
Thank you, I will try your advice of walking meditation in nature but now with the lockdown in place I'll try an open eye meditation. I'm not sure what else to do. I can't focus long enough to do other tasks like reading. I usually just watch tv shows and stuff like that to keep me distracted. If I don't do that I end up extremely depressed.
