I wouldn’t start at forgiving, I would instead seek to understand.
Once you understand you really can not blame, you can regret or wish you(or other-self) had done better but through understanding judgement dissolves. If you can judge self or other, you simply do not understand enough. That’s why we go through life over and over experiencing “karma”. Karma is the gift of the potential to understand what we haven’t.
We can always do better, each moment each day, but we are always development speaking exactly where we are. Cannot blame a toddler for not knowing calculus, the same goes for spiritual and personal evolution.
