"responding rather than reacting" this key distinction made in the transcripts can be a very helpful aid to balancing those impluses, emotions an thought processes. A gentle little reminder perhaps  
RA has this to say too :
"the gradual increase in the ability to observe one’s reactions and to know the self will bring the self ever closer to a true balance. Patience is requested and suggested, for the catalyst is intense upon your plane and its use must be appreciated over a period of consistent learn/teaching."
On a side note..below this simple search is handy example of responding in Ra's point of view..keep reiterating emphasis how they respond..I find it strangely funny?
