This reminds me of the story of a buddha noticing a prisoner in a well and a one good deed he did a spider was judged sufficient for the buddha to lower a rope making spiders rope live to the prisoner who started climbing the rope up, he noticed all kinds of condemned people coming also up the rope and he drew a knife and cut the rope and the rope above him was also cut, he cried out and the buddha walked on.
