Other-self would be more appropriate. But it's not like you're wrong.. The one is one, we're fragments of one but also contain the whole within us.

I think the point is in actually seeing the other self as you. The recognition takes it from theoretical we are all one to something that isn’t just an idea. It shakes loose some ego that says I am this thing(body)/these thoughts(mind) and makes you see no I am what is in this body and that body. So I am not this.
It also weakens that need for little i will as, if I am what is in each of us it’s not my will that matters but our combined will.
Personally it has made me better able to extrapolate that to all parts of self. Losing ego to that extent is a step back to unity. Baby step by baby step we all will know each self as ourselves.
