It has a specific bandwith, then when it wants to evolve it distributes itelf into many small fragments, one of these fragments will be better at what it wanted to do before it split into pieces and then that part becomes the whole again and "god" evolves through teh transition.
Therefore, what we call "the god that was" has a feel, a "energy" and can, indeed, be described as being dead.
