One thing to consider, which you may have already, is that the injury was connected to feelings surrounding it. The feelings don't even have to be directly related. If, say, a person was in a car accident, and upon impact was thinking about how much they dislike a coworker, then that dislike of the coworker is enmeshed with the trauma of the accident.
