I admit to trying to stay off their radar because I do think in some cases the position attracts those who want power.
I know there are good ones too but law in general bothers me as there isn't enough grey area built in for me to feel terribly trusting of any system. Either way you were within your rights and it as an interaction made you feel good.
Its a very strange world sometimes.
I'm trying to think how I would have acted, maybe kept looking forward pretending I didn't hear, ear buds might be useful in these cases... or simply said a first name and politely asked is everything ok?
Right before Christmas I had left something at home on my way to work and my husband was traveling the same route so grabbed it and was going to meet me to hand it off. He was speeding going with the traffic flow but still speeding.
Me I go into stress mode when cops are around but he handled it in a way that mesmerized me.
He pulled into the parking lot as he was caught 10 feet away, stepped out and with a smile said to the cop
"Im just dropping this off for my wife who is late for work, do you mind if I just hand it to her so she isnt late?"
He left his car and the cop, walked 30 feet gave me a kiss and told me what happened then went back to the car.
I still went into cop/stress mode and felt "guilt" somehow for having attracted their attention even though it wasnt even me, but I caused it as his intention was to get to me, even though I didnt hurry him or anything.
Anyways as my husband is digging through a folder I ask if everything is ok. He mentions he cant find proof of insurance.
I grab 2 of mine to show the cop, so nervous I didnt even notice they were expired. lol He sent me to look for updated ones
I think we both caught this guy off guard by our bizarre approach to him that were polar opposite, he was disarmed.
I went back to my truck and found a not expired one with his name on it so that issue sorted. I still didnt like driving away leaving him with the cop even though I could tell the cop was ok and my husband was fine.
Its just strange how we project one stereotype or reaction on to all of a group. I guess it's like racism but by profession, yet I know there is more to that because their job is in a way to control. Sorry for rambling, just sharing my experience.
