I don't want to discourage you all, but the first things you see when you close your eyes and if you pay very careful attention to it is the random discharges of neurons. There's a bunch of neuronal activity that subtly affects our vision. And if you want to venture into that terrain I think it's a good idea to know one from the other, to avoid embarrassing situations. Been there done that.
And I think your .gif is a great visualization of the effect.
Like I said I don't want to discourage, it means you're able to pay attention to very subtle signals. I've heard psychics report this type of motion before they started seeing flashes of images. They basically said, wait until you see this, then wait a little more and images will appear. I don't have the source, it was an Internet article so I cannot promise accuracy from personal experience :-/ But according to them this vision would be an image that tells you you're on the threshold.
