Do not resist evil

I would think you refer to this quote :

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

If you take another version though you read :

39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.

So the quote seems to call for pacifism, to not respond to violence with violence or evil with evil.
