I can try to give a bit of advice!
Firstly, don't put any pressure on yourself as far as your speed of progression or apparent view of progress. Be very patient with yourself, kind with yourself, and love yourself - this will help immensely.
As far as getting in to a good meditation routine goes, I wouldn't put a ton of pressure on yourself for this, either. It's best to -try- to meditate every day, even if you only do it for 5 minutes. But don't let a missed day discourage you! - I've been meditating "every day" for almost three years now, but it's more like 13/14 days. But, persistence is important, it's like running a marathon - when you first start training, you can hardly run the block without getting winded. But eventually your muscles build up and condition themselves to increase the depth of your experience. When you stop running, your conditioning slowly fades. It's very similar. But even 5 minutes a day is a strong enough intent to invite the Creator into your life during each day.
One thing that may help you a lot is to remember to invoke your guidance, and shield yourself. These are things that are good to do right before meditation, but also can be done in a moment throughout the day. Invoking your guidance involves asking those who are in unseen realms around you for their assistance with your daily stuff - just anything. They are there to help, but need to be asked because otherwise they are overstepping their boundaries by not allowing your free will to ask for their help. The other thing is shielding. You can google shielding endlessly to read about it and learn what techniques would work for you, but basically it's learning to surround your energetic complex with a white light that will shield you and block out a lot of the random negative energy that is being shot off by other people. It's a very important thing for empaths to learn, to 'shut off' the unconscious tapping into of others' negative emotions.
The final course of study I would suggest is studying your chakras. The chakras are like a pipe. The energy from the earth comes in at the first chakra, the root chakra or red-ray, and progresses to the pineal/indigo. If there is a blockage at any of the chakras, the energy gets 'cut off' and can't go any higher, or can only barely squeak by. I have found that learning my chakras, their emotions and associations, and their physical sensations, has given me and extremely valuable tool to keeping my energetic body relatively smooth running, at least smooth enough for my satisfaction. Everyone has their own unique "balance", cultivating this into a game to play and having fun with it is a good course of action.
This forum has lots of good resources on all of these topics. You can use the forum search or you can use the (easier and more friendly) Google search, to search just bring4th add "site:www.bring4th.org" (no quotes) to your search tags.
