That makes sense. What I was thinking was that since pain is the only thing that makes you learn the lessons it makes no difference whether you are aware or not.
"Nothing shall be overcome" even if you know what you're doing is wrong, because of being aware, you should always do what you want to do, not what is the right thing to do. Overcoming is like lying to yourself, the lessons are not learned that way.
Also I don't think we ever remove our distortions, we just learn to balance them. Not completely sure about this one, I haven't been around that long.
