One thing I have been doing as of late is letting my thoughts 'breathe', regardless of what type of thought they are, be it positive or negative. It seems to be helping in providing me the mental freedom I so very much desire.
I have also, conversely, been trying to hold my focus on those thoughts which I do want. It is a balancing act between holding and letting go. Almost like breathing in and out. I haven't quite reached the breathless state yet, so in the mean time..........breathe in and breathe out, breather in and breathe out.
