I definitely agree, until that depression reaches down far enough that interaction in all areas of life becomes suppressed to the point where one desires to stop participating. I don't mean to say that all depression is purely red-ray but much can be alleviated with red-ray therapy.
But I do believe it is more nuanced than having food and water and shelter, in the moment. It simplifies down to that but most people worry about buying food next week or paying rent next month, worrying about things that will happen in the future. Not to mention, if the quality of food/water/shelter is low, issues of survival still factor in.
