An example; I love and play football (soccer if you're from the U.S.) regularly and use it as great catalyst to be open and loving in a 'competitive' game. 95% of the time I succeed, but last night I had an STS impulse and deliberately tripped my friend up as he got past me. I helped him up, apologised and hugged him (which he accepted, and laughed about, it's quite physical after all).
I can't believe I missed this comment the first time round!!!
It is almost identical to my own incident on the 13th of June. I too was playing football on an astro turf pitch in a Sunday mini league tournament (5 a side). I also love playing football and play casually on Monday and Tuesday nights. The Sunday thing though is more competitive and I originally got back into footie a couple of years ago with an "exercise and socialise" mentality.
Within a few minutes after kick off I had got our team 1-0 up and was eager for more as our opponents defence were pretty slow on their feet. Only 5 minutes played and again I had an opportunity to score, I tapped the ball past a defender but he shoulder barged me as I was running past. It was a cynical foul but the thing is, had I tried to, I could of managed to stay on my feet if not succeed in scoring another goal. So I exaggerated the fall but landed very awkwardly on my right shoulder. I was in real pain and although I got a deserved direct free kick I was unable to keep playing on and came off the pitch instead. While on the touch line I said to my partner that I will have to go to hospital as I could barely move my arm.
It turned out that I had a stage 3 collarbone dislocation and my ligaments were torn. They also said because of its more complex nature that they could not pop it back in (I was looking forward to the gas and air that the nurse had said I would get lol) and neither could they operate. Instead I was sent home with painkillers, told I could not go back to work for at least 2 weeks and that it would be 6 to 8 weeks before my ligaments would knit back together. What's more is I now have a permanent lump slightly projecting out of my right shoulder caused by the end of my collarbone. Ouch!
The lesson I took from this was 1, "stay on your feet!" and 2, "stop playing to win and losing that team player attitude". It was meant to be about "exercise and socialise" after all haha.
As a self employed bricklayer I lost 2 & 1/2 weeks off work, furthermore our goalkeeper text me the next day asking how I was. I told him the details and asked what the end score was. He replied "lost 3-1"
Doe! lol
Goodness, that tiny decision turned out to be a rather catalytic one! Do you think it was purely for going down, or had you had some negative thoughts in and around that time too?
Hope the shoulder is OK now :¬)
