Beauty is very powerful, but is it just because we've all been conditioned to feel so ugly? (photoshopped ads, make-up, plastic surgery, et al) I mean I know we've always put physical attractiveness upon a pedestal as a species with our art, we've definitely taken it to an extreme expression. Hair in only the right places. Neat and tidy clothing. Tall and slim. Flawless complexion. Humans are a strange and varied looking species. We are all unique and choose our looks very specifically for our life lessons. A big and recurring one is to find beauty in ourselves when no one else says otherwise.
For what it's worth, when I first met and got together with my husband, I was hardly attracted to him physically at all. It was weird and difficult at times. Eventually he softened into something much more beautiful, which was just part of the process, I guess.
For what it's worth, I've really been a serial monogamist since puberty basically, having been in 7 serious relationships, most where I would say I was "in love". I was only physically attracted to maybe 2 of them, tops. Three now if you count my beautiful, radiant husband.
