I also am not much of the visual type, people who are better are seeing images in their mind will use it more to interract with their 3rd eye but I do not think there is a better way. The 3rd eye in my opinion is related to intuition, whatever way you are feeling it will be true for you. I also tend to be more auditive, when I channel I speak the answers while others will view an image in their mind of the answer.

My exepriences seem a bit like yours, I can relate to the magnetic chord feeling and the pain prior to that. But in general I don't have the ringing noise or very rarely. I've succeed 3 times in lucid dreaming and at all those times I had a ringing noise to focus on which led me to the dream world. I cannot hear it at will thought.
